Does gender still matter? An examination of small business performance

Summary: This study provides new insights into gender differences in small business outcomes by analyzing microdata from the 2007 US Census Bureau PUMS dataset. The findings indicate that female-led businesses continue to trail male-led businesses in survival rates, profits, employment, and sales. However, there are also improvements in performance by female-led businesses, surpassing their male-led counterparts in some cases.
