Correlates of Adherence to the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring for HIV-1 Prevention

Marla J. Husnik et al.

Summary: Factors such as time on study, primary partner knowledge, and use of long-acting contraceptive methods were associated with adherence to the dapivirine vaginal ring, while younger age, ring worries, condom use, episodes of menstrual bleeding, and vaginal washing were associated with non-adherence. These findings can inform recruitment for future clinical studies and implementation efforts for the dapivirine ring.

Facilitators and barriers to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake through a community-based intervention strategy among adolescent girls and young women in Seme Sub-County, Kisumu, Kenya

Maya Jackson-Gibson et al.

Summary: The study found that the community roll-out of PrEP within the DREAMS Initiative was successful, with key facilitating factors including the safe space model, decentralization of support and delivery, peer mentors, and effective linkage to local health care facilities. However, barriers such as stigma associated with medication, frequent relocation, limited resources, and shortage of healthcare workers need to be addressed for future scale-up of PrEP roll-out.
