Information delivery channels and agricultural technology uptake: experimental evidence from Ghana

Fred Mawunyo Dzanku et al.

Summary: The study uses a randomized controlled experiment in northern Ghana to investigate the most effective communication options for farmers to adopt a new technology. The results show that using video documentaries is more effective in inducing technology uptake and increasing yields, while the effects of radio listening clubs are inconclusive due to insufficient statistical power. The study concludes that barriers to learning about the correct technology usage or benefits limit adoption.

Time Preferences and green agricultural technology adoption: Field evidence from rice farmers in China

Hui Mao et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of time preferences on farmers' technology adoption behavior, with a specific focus on the example of straw incorporation in Chinese villages. Findings highlighted a significant reduction in technology adoption due to time preferences, especially for present-biased farmers. Additionally, the study revealed that larger-scale farmers are more likely to adopt green technology, with production scale moderating the inhibitory effect of time preferences on technology adoption.

Farm Size, Risk Aversion and Overuse of Fertilizer: The Heterogeneity of Large-Scale and Small-Scale Wheat Farmers in Northern China

Haixia Wu et al.

Summary: The study shows that excessive use of fertilizer in China has caused environmental degradation and increased health costs.
