Trends for agricultural land-use in the CEECs following the collapse of the Eastern Bloc

Summary: The main goal of this study is to analyze and diagnose the agricultural land-use structure in the Central and Eastern European countries. The study found significant spatial differentiation in the grassland and arable land structure in the region. After the fall of the Eastern Bloc, all CEECs experienced a decrease in grassland area and a decline in the cultivation of perennial-type crops.

Spatial-temporal characteristics and influencing factors of farmland expansion in different agricultural regions of Heilongjiang Province, China

Summary: This study explores the spatial-temporal characteristics of farmland expansion in the Songnen Plain and Sanjiang Plain in Heilongjiang Province from 1980 to 2018. It reveals that farmland area has been expanding, with a larger scale in the Sanjiang Plain. The expansion intensity of farmland fluctuated over time, with different patterns in the two plains. Socio-economic context and national policies were identified as the main driving factors for farmland expansion.
