Cross-Talk between the Complement Pathway and the Contact Activation System of Coagulation: Activated Factor XI Neutralizes Complement Factor H

Cristina Puy et al.

Summary: The study found that FXIa directly interacts with CFH and neutralizes CFH by cleaving the R341/R342 bonds, reducing its function and enhancing the activity of the complement system. Additionally, the generation of FXIa promotes the cleavage of CFH in plasma. These results reveal a novel link between the contact pathway of coagulation and the complement system.

Solution structures of human myeloma IgG3 antibody reveal extended Fab and Fc regions relative to the other IgG subclasses

Valentina A. Spiteri et al.

Summary: A multidisciplinary study revealed that IgG3 has an elongated molecular structure with relatively restricted Fab and Fc conformations joined by an extended semi-rigid hinge, explaining the potent effector functions of IgG3 relative to other subclasses IgG1, IgG2, and IgG4.
