Polyvinylamine with moderate binding affinity as a highly effective vehicle for RNA delivery

Ye Tian et al.

Summary: Polymeric carriers, such as polyvinylamine (PVAm), offer potential advantages in RNA therapy by balancing high transfection efficacy with low toxicity. PVAm demonstrates high levels of transfection and shows promise for in vivo activity, with advantages over the gold standard polymer, polyethyleneimine (PEI), including simpler purification and lower cost. Mechanism analysis reveals the potential of PVAm for efficient RNA delivery.

Development of a novel vector for siRNA delivery based on arginine-modified polyvinylamine

Mei Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel PVAm derivative, PVAm-Arg, was successfully designed for siRNA delivery by modifying polyvinylamine (PVAm) with arginine. The results showed that PVAm-Arg effectively bound siRNA and formed stable complexes with low cytotoxicity. Furthermore, PVAm-Arg demonstrated good transfection efficiency in vitro cellular uptake assay.

Tunable fluorescent and antimicrobial properties of poly(vinyl amine) affected by the acidic or basic hydrolysis of poly(N-vinylformamide)

S. Duygu Sutekin et al.

Summary: The synthesis of poly(N-vinylformamide) (PNVF) and its subsequent hydrolysis to poly(vinyl amine) (PVAm) were investigated in this study. The kinetics and products of acidic and basic hydrolysis of PNVF were examined using various spectroscopic techniques, revealing structural differences between the two hydrolysis methods. Fluorescence spectroscopy was used for the first time to track the conversion of amide groups to amine groups, showing a significant increase in fluorescence intensity in PVAm from basic hydrolysis. PVAm from acidic hydrolysis demonstrated potent antimicrobial activity against common pathogens compared to PVAm from basic hydrolysis.

How the Reactive End Group of Macro-RAFT Agent Affects RAFT-Mediated Emulsion Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly

Junpeng Cao et al.

Summary: This study explores how the reactive end group of macro-RAFT agent affects RAFT-induced emulsion polymerization for the first time. Different end groups were found to influence the morphologies of block copolymer nano-objects and the polymerization process. The use of asymmetric difunctional macro-RAFT agent allows for functionalization of the nano-objects.

Release Strategies of Silver Ions from Materials for Bacterial Killing

Zhiwen Xu et al.

Summary: Silver-based antibacterial agents have high antibacterial activity due to the role of silver ions (Ag+) in adsorbing to biomolecules in bacteria and inactivating their functions. The release of Ag+ from silver-containing materials can be categorized into passive release and stimuli-responsive release, with the latter designed for high efficacy and selectivity in eliminating bacteria. Future studies should focus on enhancing the controllability of Ag+ release in infected sites within human organs.
