Durable self-polishing antifouling coating based on fluorine-containing pyrrolidone amphiphilic copolymer-functionalized nanosilica

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Marine biofouling is harmful to ships and developing effective antifouling coatings is important. A novel self-polishing nanocomposite coating was prepared by modifying nanosilica, showing satisfactory antibacterial and antifouling properties as well as high mechanical durability.

High-strength and fibrous capsule-resistant zwitterionic elastomers

Dianyu Dong et al.

Summary: This study presents a unique class of materials, called zwitterionic-elastomeric-networked (ZEN) hydrogels, which combine two weak zwitterionic hydrogels into a high-strength pure zwitterionic hydrogel to achieve both high mechanical properties and long-term resistance to fibrous capsule formation. This successful integration provides design principles for durable and fibrous capsule-resistant materials.

Antifouling Coatings Generated from Unsymmetrical Partially Fluorinated Spiroalkanedithiols

Lydia R. St Hill et al.

Summary: Biofouling has negative impacts on key industries such as medicine, oil, and shipping. Research shows that antifouling coatings prepared from unsymmetrical partially fluorinated spiroalkanedithiols demonstrate better performance in preventing fouling on metal substrates compared to monodentate counterparts.
