Coordination-Driven Surface Zwitteration for Antibacterial and Antifog Applications

Yohan Kim et al.

Summary: The enhancement of surface wettability by hydrophilic polymer coatings, particularly zwitterionic polymers, is of great interest in addressing technical challenges related to biofouling and surface fogging. This article presents a new approach based on mussel-inspired surface chemistry and metal coordination for grafting zwitterionic polymers onto solid substrates. The method involves polydopamine coating and metal-mediated crosslinking reactions, resulting in the formation of nanometer-thick zwitterionic polymer layers that exhibit high resistance to bacterial adhesion and fog generation.

Stretch-Enhanced Anisotropic Wetting on Transparent Elastomer Film for Controlled Liquid Transport

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study introduces a strategy for achieving directional liquid transport using V-shaped prisms microarray (VPM) on a transparent lubricating oil infused elastomer film. It is found that the direction of water wetting on the VPM structure surface in the presence of lubricating oil infusion is determined by the arrangement and stretching state, which can be enhanced, weakened, or even reversed.

Superhydrophilic Fe3+ Doped TiO2 Films with Long-Lasting Antifogging Performance

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: A Fe3+ doped TiO2 film with long-lasting superhydrophilicity and antifogging is prepared in this study, and experiments along with density-functional theory calculations are conducted to investigate the antifogging performance and the underlying microscopic mechanism of Fe3+ doped TiO2. The results show that Fe3+ doping can enhance the photolysis ability of TiO2 under sunlight exposure and stabilize the hydroxyl adsorbate on TiO2 surface, leading to a long-lasting superhydrophilicity.
