Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals

Summary: In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to investigate the genetic factors associated with educational attainment (EA). The results identified numerous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are significantly correlated with EA. Furthermore, a polygenic predictor (PGI) was found to explain a substantial portion of the variation in EA and contribute to disease risk prediction. Intriguingly, the correlation between mate-pair PGIs suggests additional assortment mechanisms. However, no significant SNPs were identified in separate analyses of dominance deviations and the X-chromosome.

Self-reported physical activity and atrial fibrillation risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study included 15 studies with a total of 1,464,539 individuals, showing that individuals who achieved the guideline-recommended PA level had a significantly lower risk of AF. Dose-response analysis indicated that PA levels up to 1900 MET-minutes per week were associated with a lower risk of AF, but the benefit beyond that level was less clear.

Accelerometer measured physical activity and the incidence of cardiovascular disease: Evidence from the UK Biobank cohort study

Summary: The study found that higher levels of physical activity are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, regardless of total, moderate-intensity, or vigorous-intensity physical activity. The greatest benefit is seen for individuals who are active at the highest level, suggesting no threshold for the inverse association between objectively measured physical activity and CVD.

Assessment of causal effects of physical activity on neurodegenerative diseases: A Mendelian randomization study

Summary: The study used Mendelian randomization analysis to explore the causal association between physical activity and neurodegenerative diseases, concluding that genetically predicted physical activity was not robustly associated with the risk of these diseases. More evidence from other studies is needed to determine whether increasing physical activity is an effective approach in preventing the onset of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
