Realizing PIT-like transparency via the coupling of plasmonic dipole and ENZ modes

Miao Mao et al.

Summary: Plasmon induced transparency (PIT), which involves the coupling of plasmon modes in metamaterials, has been extensively studied in photonic applications. In this work, a PIT-like transparency is achieved through the strong coupling of plasmonic dipole and epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) mode. By designing gold nanoantenna and dolmen-like metasurfaces with an integrated ENZ material aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) film, single and double transparent windows are realized. The adjustment of peak position and transmittance of transparent windows using structure parameters and the AZO film thickness is further explored. This study presents an alternative coupling scheme for achieving PIT-like transparency with simple metasurface design, offering great potential for future metamaterial applications.

Ultranarrow perfect absorber with linewidth down to 1 nm based on optical anapole mode

Ran Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a silicon-dielectric-metal nanostructure that supports an optional anapole mode through destructive interference between electric and toroidal dipoles. The proposed nanostructure exhibits a near-perfect ultra-narrow absorption spectrum in the near infrared region, with a narrow absorption bandwidth and high-quality factor. Additionally, it demonstrates refractive index sensing properties and has potential applications in optical sensors, narrow-band filters, non-radiative data transmission, and biomolecules manipulation.

Improved strong field enhancement and ultranarrow perfect absorption based on anapole mode in slotted Si nanodisk metamaterial

Mengyue He et al.

Summary: High refractive index dielectric metamaterials have become a new frontier in nanophotonics due to their low loss. Our research shows that the slotted Si nanodisk with anapole mode can achieve strong near field enhancement, and when deposited on Ag substrate separated by SiO2 layer, it exhibits ultranarrow perfect absorption.

Tuning the optical response of a plasmonic T-shaped dimer with nanowire loads for improved SERS and sensing applications

Mengke Ren et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically investigates the optical properties of a T-shaped dimer (TD) nanostructure and a TD with nanowire loads (TD/NL) nanostructure. By depositing the NLs around the TD, the optical property of the TD is significantly modified, resulting in a stronger electric field enhancement and Fano resonance. The Fano resonance in TD/NL nanostructure reveals a narrow spectral linewidth and high quality factor, which is advantageous for optical refractive index sensors with high sensitivity.

Plasmonic Photoelectrocatalysis in Copper-Platinum Core-Shell Nanoparticle Lattices

Shikai Deng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the photoelectrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reactions using strongly coupled bimetallic core-shell nanoparticle arrays. Fabricating large-area Cu-Pt nanoparticle lattices, the coupled lattices were shown to support two different types of plasmon modes, leading to increased catalytic activity under white-light illumination. Comparing the two plasmon modes at different wavelength ranges, surface lattice resonances (SLRs) exhibited two-fold activity enhancement over localized surface plasmons.

Anapole-Assisted Absorption Engineering in Arrays of Coupled Amorphous Gallium Phosphide Nanodisks

Ludwig Huettenhofer et al.

Summary: The study investigates the coupling mechanisms in arrays of amorphous GaP nanodisks supporting anapole excitations, revealing that absorption enhancement of up to 300% can be achieved by adjusting the array periodicities to overlap with the anapole excitation of a single particle. Analyzing coupling interactions in one- and two-dimensional arrays allows for discrimination between parallel and perpendicular interactions to the polarization axis, showing an enhancement of electric and toroidal dipoles under variation of the interparticle spacing. These findings provide insight into tailored light absorption in coupled anapole resonators and offer important design guidelines for energy conversion applications.

Optical Anapole Modes in Gallium Phosphide Nanodisk with Forked Slits for Electric Field Enhancement

Jingwei Lv et al.

Summary: This research systematically investigates the scattered radiation spectral features and field-enhanced interactions of gallium phosphide disks with forked slits at anapole modes, demonstrating a novel approach for near-field engineering by creating high-intensity hot spots inside the disk. The results show that opening the forked slits further enhances the electric field, allowing nearby molecules to access these hot spots directly, which has potential applications in electric field localization, nonlinear optics, and optical detection.
