Toward interface optimization of transparent wood with wood color and texture by silane coupling agent

Jichun Zhou et al.

Summary: This experiment aimed to optimize the interface compatibility between wood templates and resin using silane coupling agent KH550, resulting in improved optical and mechanical properties of transparent wood with the color and texture of solid wood. The study showed that the use of KH550 significantly improved the overall interface compatibility between the wood template and resin, leading to increased light transmittance, tensile strength, and elongation at break, as well as reduced haze. Transparent wood also retained some of the texture of solid wood.

Print base decorative paper with high-dimensional stability by chemical fiber modification: An experimental and analytical approach

Massimiliano Barletta et al.

Summary: The main structural component of wood fibers is cellulose, which interacts with water due to its high hydrophilicity. This interaction can weaken paper by breaking hydrogen bonds and altering its dimension and stability over time, especially for products like decorative paper. Chemical additives can improve paper's performance against water and water vapor uptake.

Interfacial bonding properties of the eco-friendly geopolymer-wood composites: influences of embedded wood depth, wood surface roughness, and moisture conditions

Hanzhou Ye et al.

Summary: Increasing the embedded depth of wood, sanding the wood surface, and controlling moisture conditions during curing process can enhance the interfacial bonding strength of geopolymer-wood composites, with a plateau reached when the embedded depth exceeds 25 mm. Curing under wet conditions contributes to higher interfacial bonding strength, and improving wood surface roughness through sanding can create stronger mechanical interlocking at the interface to enhance bonding strength.

Soy meal adhesive with high strength and water resistance via carboxymethylated wood fiber-induced crosslinking

Huiwen Pang et al.

Summary: This study developed a high-performance soy meal-based adhesive by using carboxymethylated wood fibers, which served as a multiple crosslinking core and effectively improved the bonding strength and water resistance of the adhesive. The modified adhesive showed excellent performance in tension tests, with a significantly higher water-resistant bonding strength compared to the unmodified adhesive, leading to 100% wood failure percentage in plywood bonding. This design offers a simple and sustainable strategy for developing high-performance soy meal-based adhesives.

Study of the collapse and recovery of Eucalyptus urophydis during conventional kiln drying

Lin Yang et al.

Summary: This research investigates the collapse and recovery characteristics of Eucalyptus urophydis wood during drying, comparing continuous and cyclic drying methods. Results show that continuous drying has a faster rate and temperature has a significant impact on shrinkage. Despite decreasing collapse, cyclic drying is less effective, especially at high temperatures. Recovery time is influenced by temperature, with quicker recovery at high temperatures, and the effect of humidity during cyclic drying accelerates collapse recovery. Microscopic collapse trends are consistent with macroscopic measurements.
