Sodium hydrosulfite together with silicon detoxifies arsenic toxicity in tomato plants by modulating the AsA-GSH cycle

Cengiz Kaya et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the combined application of hydrogen sulfide and silicon on improving tolerance of tomato plants to arsenic stress. The results showed that arsenic stress inhibited plant growth and key biochemical processes, while the joint supplementation of hydrogen sulfide and silicon enhanced antioxidant biomolecules and reduced arsenic content, indicating a collaborative role of both molecules in improving tolerance to arsenic toxicity in tomato plants.

Shoot base responds to root-applied glutathione and functions as a critical region to inhibit cadmium translocation from the roots to shoots in oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

Jun-Song Li et al.

Summary: The study found that glutathione can inhibit the translocation of cadmium from plant roots to shoots, and by activating the inward return process of cadmium, it promotes this inhibitory effect. Experimental results demonstrate the important role of the shoot base in distributing cadmium throughout the plant body. Microarray analysis revealed that about 400 genes in the roots responded to root-applied glutathione.

The role of glutathione-mediated triacylglycerol synthesis in the response to ultra-high cadmium stress in Auxenochlorella protothecoides

Chao Xing et al.

Summary: This study revealed that under Cd stress, glutathione can activate TAG synthesis in A. protothecoides, leading to TAG accumulation and glutathione accumulation, which can enhance resistance to high Cd stress. Insights into a new operation mode of TAG accumulation under heavy metal stress were provided.

An ABCC-type transporter endowing glyphosate resistance in plants

Lang Pan et al.

Summary: Glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide globally, has led to the evolution of resistance in many weed species. A study identified an ATP-binding cassette transporter, EcABCC8, that confers glyphosate resistance when expressed in transgenic rice. This transporter likely effluxes glyphosate in a plasma membrane-localized manner, reducing cellular glyphosate levels.

Combined Citric Acid and Glutathione Augments Lead (Pb) Stress Tolerance and Phytoremediation of Castorbean through Antioxidant Machinery and Pb Uptake

Fanrong Zeng et al.

Summary: Lead (Pb) is one of the most toxic elements on earth, mainly originating from automobiles, paint and electroplating industries. Plant growth and biomass are severely affected by Pb-induced stress. The combined application of citric acid (CA) and glutathione (GSH) can promote the phytoremediation of Pb and help plants combat Pb toxicity.

Thioredoxin h2 and o1 Show Different Subcellular Localizations and Redox-Active Functions, and Are Extrachloroplastic Factors Influencing Photosynthetic Performance in Fluctuating Light

Liang-Yu Hou et al.

Summary: Arabidopsis contains eight different h-type thioredoxins (Trx) distributed in different cell organelles, among which Trx h2 is exclusively localized in microsomes rather than mitochondria. The role of Trx h2 differs from mitochondrial Trx o1 and affects plant growth and metabolism, especially under fluctuating light conditions. The joint role of both Trxs in regulating NADPH redox balance and photosynthetic performance is crucial for plant adaptation to changing light environments.

TaWRKY74 participates copper tolerance through regulation of TaGST1 expression and GSH content in wheat

Ge-Zi Li et al.

Summary: The study identified a Cu-induced glutathione S-transferase 1 (TaGST1) gene and its transcription factor TaWRKY74 in wheat. TaWRKY74 plays a crucial role in regulating TaGST1 expression and affecting GSH accumulation under Cu stress, providing a potential strategy to alleviate Cu toxicity for crop food safety.
