Offshore Island Connection Line: A new perspective of coastal urban development boundary simulation and multi-scenario prediction

Fei He et al.

Summary: This study proposes an artificial neural network cellular automata (ANN-CA) model based on the Offshore Island Connection Line (OICL), which accurately simulates land use expansion in coastal cities. The model outperforms traditional models and effectively simulates new urban land outside the research boundary. The results provide valuable insights for determining the development boundary of coastal cities.

Crowdsourced Data for Physical Activity-Built Environment Research: Applying Strava Data in Chengdu, China

Linchuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the distribution of cycling and running tracks in central Chengdu using the Strava Heatmap and explores the impacts of the built environment on physical activity. The findings suggest that land-use mix has insignificant effects on residents' physical activity, while factors such as road density, water area, green space area, number of stadiums, and number of enterprises significantly facilitate cycling and running. Additionally, housing price is positively correlated with these activities, while schools seem to discourage them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effects of land use and cover change (LUCC) on terrestrial carbon stocks in China between 2000 and 2018

Xiaoqing Chang et al.

Summary: Land-use and cover change (LUCC) is a significant factor in the terrestrial carbon cycle, but the changes in vegetation biomass and soil carbon sequestration caused by land-use conversion have large uncertainties. In this study, we determined the characteristics of LUCC in China by analyzing transition matrices and transfer trajectories. By integrating models, we explored the carbon budget from land-use conversion and found that LUCC has a significant effect on increasing the terrestrial carbon pool in China. Our findings have implications for improving the estimation accuracy of carbon pools and understanding the impact of human activities on the regional carbon balance in China's terrestrial ecosystem.

Simulating land use/land cover change in an arid region with the coupling models

Qingzheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study quantitatively analyzed the spatiotemporal changes in global land use/land cover (LULC) and found that the ecological environment underwent noticeable changes around the year 2000, with the most dramatic changes occurring during 1987-1997. The economy was identified as the main driving force behind LULC changes.

Spatial decomposition of city-level CO2 emission changes in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei

Xiaohong Yu et al.

Summary: This study focused on carbon emissions in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, revealing the need for tailored emission reduction policies due to differing industrial characteristics among cities. High carbon emission cities include Tangshan, Handan, and Shijiazhuang, while low carbon emission cities include Hengshui, Baoding, Langfang, Qinhuangdao, and Xingtai. Factors such as economic scale, energy intensity, and energy structure contribute to variations in carbon emissions, highlighting the importance of individualized emission reduction strategies for each city.

Forecasting Chinese economic growth, energy consumption, and urbanization using two novel grey multivariable forecasting models

Changrong Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces two novel grey multivariable models, SRMGM(1, M) and BRMGM(1, m), which optimize the background value and incorporate rolling prediction to enhance the accuracy of forecasting economic growth, energy consumption, and urbanization in China. The results show that the new models outperform the traditional MGM(1, m) model and non-grey models in terms of accuracy, providing a solid basis for government policies and plans regarding economic growth and energy consumption.
