Does environmental regulation affect the export competitiveness of Chinese firms?

The results show that environmental regulations have increased the market share of firms' export products, especially for non-core products. Environmental regulation mainly enhances firms' export competitiveness through improving total factor productivity.

Global value chains and carbon emission reduction in developing countries: Does industrial upgrading matter?

This study investigates the potential role of industrial upgrading in the effect of participating in global value chains (GVCs) on carbon emissions. The results show that industrial structure transformation and upgrading when participating in GVCs can help mitigate pollution emissions expansion in developing countries like Russia and Brazil, but the adjustment effect is relatively weak. China and India face the dilemma of low-end locking in GVCs, intensifying the pressure on reducing carbon emissions domestically.
