Development and advancement of iridium(III)-based complexes for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Daniel Nnaemaka Tritton et al.

Summary: This review surveys the design and evaluation of organometallic compounds based on iridium(III) and relevant metal complexes as photocatalysts/photosensitizers in systems for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. The photo-redox mechanisms and structure-catalytic activity relationships are discussed to guide future design of more efficient and robust photocatalytic systems.

Solar-Driven Hydrogen Generation Catalyzed by g-C3N4 with Poly(platinaynes) as Efficient Electron Donor at Low Platinum Content

Xuan Zhou et al.

Summary: A metal-complex-modified graphitic carbon nitride bulk heterostructure is proposed as a promising alternative to high-cost noble metals as artificial photocatalysts. Experimental studies show that the Pt(II) acetylide group effectively expands electron delocalization and enhances light-harvesting efficiencies. Among the tested assemblies, Pt-P@CN without any Pt metal additives exhibits significantly improved photocatalytic H-2 generation rate under simulated sunlight irradiation.
