Identification of Sex Differentiation-Related microRNAs in Spinach Female and Male Flower

Ning Li et al.

Summary: This study identified differentially expressed microRNAs in male and female spinach flowers through small RNA sequencing, and discovered microRNA-target pairs involved in sex determination and differentiation. The functional study of sol-miR2550n revealed its role as a male-promoting factor. These findings provide valuable insights for further research on spinach sex determination and differentiation.

Characterization of Phytohormones and Transcriptomic Profiling of the Female and Male Inflorescence Development in Manchurian Walnut (Juglans mandshurica Maxim.)

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory functions and molecular pathways involved in flower development in Juglans mandshurica using phytohormone and transcriptomic sequencing analyses. The dominant phytohormone, gibberellin, was found to regulate flower development. Enrichment analysis revealed the roles of MAPK signaling, phytohormone signal transduction, and sugar metabolism in flower development. Several genes involved in floral organ transition and flowering were identified, including the M-type MADS-box gene family. The findings provide a genetic basis for further research on the regulatory networks and reproductive biology of inflorescence development in J. mandshurica.

Transcriptome profiling of differentially expressed genes of male and female inflorescences in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.)

Zhiyuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to sexual expression in spinach, including transcription factors and hormone pathways. These findings lay a foundation for unraveling the regulatory mechanism of sex determination in spinach.

Sex determination through X-Y heterogamety in Salix nigra

Brian J. Sanderson et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel sex-linked region (SLR) in Salix nigra was identified, showing XY heterogamety. The SLR is characterized by strong recombination suppression and an excess of low-frequency alleles, possibly due to a recent bottleneck in population size or factors related to positive selection. This discovery sheds light on factors influencing plant sex chromosome evolution and highlights the dynamic nature of sex chromosomes.

Flower Development of Heterodichogamous Juglans mandshurica (Juglandaceae)

Lijie Zhang et al.

Summary: By studying the floral development of Juglans mandshurica, it was found that male and female flowers of the same mating type exhibit synchronous morphological and anatomical development with minimal overlap. This ensures synchronization, mutual non-interference, outcrossing, and avoidance of self-fertilization within the same mating type.
