Recovery of Model Pharmaceutical Compounds from Water and Organic Solutions with Alginate-Based Composite Membranes

Tatyana Anokhina et al.

Summary: In this study, nanofiltration membranes based on sodium alginate were prepared using the non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) and cation cross-linking methods. The precipitation strength of non-solvent was found to significantly affect the membrane performance. Simultaneous precipitation and crosslinking in aqueous solutions were suitable for the highly selective recovery of pharmaceutical compounds from organic media, while a different method was needed for the recovery of pharmaceutical compounds from water.

Ethylene and ethane transport properties of hydrogen-stable Ag+-based facilitated transport membranes

Matthew N. Davenport et al.

Summary: A coordination complex between Ag+ ions and olefin molecules in polymer membranes has been developed, resulting in enhanced olefin-paraffin selectivity. The stability of the Ag+ carrier in the membranes has been improved through the use of solid polymer electrolytes containing AgTf2N salt. The membranes exhibit high ethylene-ethane selectivity and permeability, surpassing the upper bound of traditional polymeric gas separation membranes. The observed dual-mode ethylene sorption is explained using a chemical equilibrium model.

Interactions of Ag Particles Stabilized by 7,7,8,8-Tetracyanoquinodimethane with Olefin Molecules in Poly(ether-block-amide)

Minsu Kim et al.

Summary: By using silver nanoparticles as stabilized carriers and adding electron acceptors to activate their surface, this study investigated the correlation between the between-segments ratio of poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBAX) and the stability and separation performance of the carriers. The results showed that a relatively high proportion of polyamide in PEBAX-5513/AgNPs/TCNQ membrane led to higher permeance, attributed to the ability of polyamide groups to stabilize and positively polarize the surface of silver nanoparticles, resulting in stable and high-performance olefin separation.
