Risk of Serious Infection With Low-dose Glucocorticoids in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis An Instrumental Variable Analysis

Michael D. George et al.

Summary: A study conducted on patients with rheumatoid arthritis found an increased risk of infection requiring hospitalization associated with low-dose glucocorticoid use. This finding was confirmed using both instrumental variable (IV) analysis and traditional analysis methods.

Genetics of rheumatoid arthritis

Leonid Padyukov

Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory autoimmune disease with significant genetic associations and variations. Current research focuses on immune receptor binding, T cell activation, and cell signaling mechanisms. More than 150 candidate loci have been identified, with further discoveries expected in the future.

Caffeine, Coffee, Tea and Risk of Rheumatoid Arthritis: Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Farzaneh Asoudeh et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the association between dietary caffeine, different types of coffee and tea consumption, and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results showed that higher intake of coffee and decaffeinated coffee was associated with an increased risk of RA, while there was no significant association between caffeinated coffee, tea, or caffeine intake and RA risk.

A Case-Control Study of the Effects of Chimarrao (Ilex paraguariensis) and Coffee on Parkinson's Disease

Marcio Schneider Medeiros et al.

Summary: A case-control study in southern Brazil found high consumption of chimarrao, a caffeinated beverage made with IP, to be inversely associated with PD, with a similar inverse association observed with high coffee consumption. Chimarrao remained associated with PD even after adjusting for coffee intake, smoking history, and age, suggesting a possible protective role. Further research is needed to explore the potential protective effects of chimarrao on PD.

Antitumor Effects of Freeze-Dried Robusta Coffee (Coffea canephora) Extracts on Breast Cancer Cell Lines

Ayelen D. Nigra et al.

Summary: Research suggests that coffee extracts significantly reduce cell viability in breast, colorectal, brain, and bone cancer cells, with clear evidence of anti-cancer activity in breast cancer cell lines. Coffee extract also influences cell apoptosis and mitochondrial morphology in breast cancer cells.

Summary: The research showed that from 2005 to 2018, there was no significant linear trend in RA prevalence among US adults, but significant differences were observed among different racial/ethnic groups, educational levels, and income ratios, with higher risk groups including Non-Hispanic African Americans and those with lower socioeconomic status.
