Influence of oil matrixes on stability, antioxidant activity, bioaccessibility and bioavailability of astaxanthin ester

Lu Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of oil matrixes on the stability, antioxidant activity, bioaccessibility, and bioavailability of Asta-E. The results showed that the unsaturation degree and fatty acid chain length of oil matrixes significantly influenced the bioavailability of Asta-E. Monounsaturated fatty acids and long-chain triglycerides were found to be factors that could efficiently improve the bioavailability of Asta-E.

Starch/tea polyphenols nanofibrous films for food packaging application: From facile construction to enhance mechanical, antioxidant and hydrophobic properties

Die Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a fast, simple, and environmentally friendly method to construct polyfunctional starch/tea polyphenols nanofibrous films (STNFs) using temperature-assisted electrospinning. The addition of tea polyphenols (TP) was found to enhance the antioxidant activity of STNFs without affecting the mechanical properties, while also improving the hydrophobicity of the films. These results represent a significant advancement in promoting the sustainable application of functional starch-based materials in food packaging.

Evaluation of solvent effects on the DPPH reactivity for determining the antioxidant activity in oil matrix

JinWook La et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the reactivity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in five different solvents to assess the antioxidant capabilities in medium chain triacylglycerol. The results showed that antioxidants exhibited varying reactivity with DPPH depending on the solvent used, with a combination of methanol and isooctane providing reliable information on antioxidant capacities in edible oils.

Coaxial electrospun PVA/PCL nanofibers with dual release of tea polyphenols and e-poly (L-lysine) as antioxidant and antibacterial wound dressing materials

Xingzi Lan et al.

Summary: A series of coaxial nanofiber membranes combining antioxidant tea polyphenols in the core and antibacterial e-poly (L-lysine) in the shell layer were successfully fabricated by coaxial electrospinning. The prepared nanofibers exhibited fast antibacterial release and sustained antioxidant release, showing promise as potential wound dressing materials with good cytocompatibility.

Antioxidant Films from Cassava Starch/Gelatin Biocomposite Fortified with Quercetin and TBHQ and Their Applications in Food Models

Wirongrong Tongdeesoontorn et al.

Summary: Edible and active packaging materials were developed using cassava starch/gelatin composite films with various types and concentrations of antioxidants. The addition of antioxidants altered the mechanical and barrier properties of the films. In food applications, the films containing antioxidants effectively inhibited the oxidation of lard and delayed the discoloration of pork.
