Recommended musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound terminology: a Delphi-based consensus statement

Mederic M. Hall et al.

Summary: The lack of standardised terminology in musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound poses challenges in education, clinical practice, and research. A multidisciplinary expert panel reached consensus on terms and definitions through a Delphi process. This consensus aims to improve clarity and consistency in communication and address areas of variability in diagnostic ultrasound imaging and procedures related to musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

Automated Whole-Liver MRI Segmentation to Assess Steatosis and Iron Quantification in Chronic Liver Disease

David Marti-Aguado et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of automatic MRI whole-liver segmentation (WLS) versus manual ROI in assessing hepatic steatosis and iron overload, showing excellent agreement and correlation with digital pathology. WLS provided more accurate estimations with lower margins of error compared to manual ROI.

Clinical indications for image-guided interventional procedures in the musculoskeletal system: a Delphi-based consensus paper from the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR)-part V, knee

Luca Maria Sconfienza et al.

Summary: Interventional procedures around the knee are widely adopted for treating musculoskeletal conditions. The Ultrasound and Interventional Subcommittees of the ESSR reviewed existing literature and highlighted controversies surrounding imaging guidance and medications efficacy. Ultrasonography guidance is recommended for precision in procedures, with further studies needed for better understanding of imaging guidance and medications efficacy.

Radiologist-level Performance by Using Deep Learning for Segmentation of Breast Cancers on MRI Scans

Lukas Hirsch et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop a deep network architecture that could achieve fully automated segmentation of breast cancers at MRI, comparable to the performance of radiologists. The results showed that the developed 3D U-Net performed as well as fellowship-trained radiologists in detailed 2D segmentation of breast cancers at routine clinical MRI.

Incorporating radiomics into clinical trials: expert consensus on considerations for data-driven compared to biologically driven quantitative biomarkers

Laure Fournier et al.

Summary: Existing quantitative imaging biomarkers go through a well-understood validation process before being included in clinical trials, while radiomics extracts features from imaging data without prior assumptions. The selection and incorporation of relevant features in radiomics require additional considerations for meaningful imaging endpoints. The large number of radiomic features tested may lead to sample sizes impractical within clinical trials.

Diagnostic accuracy of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value in differentiating malignant from benign solid liver lesions: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Farhad Nalaini et al.

Summary: ADC measurement by DW-MRI showed only moderate diagnostic accuracy in characterizing solid liver lesions, suggesting that it may not be optimal for distinguishing between solid malignant and solid benign lesions. Further studies are needed to determine the best MRI protocol and ADC threshold for characterizing these lesions.

Wyanne A. Noortman et al.

Summary: This study found that central necrosis significantly affects the radiomic features in PET analysis, with almost two-thirds of the features being affected. However, the predictive performances of the two delineation methods were comparable.
