Analytical Modeling of a Soft Pneu-Net Actuator Subjected to Planar Tip Contact

Sachin et al.

Summary: Soft actuators are compliant structures made of elastomers that generate large deformation. This study proposes an analytical model based on finite strain theory for a pneu-net soft actuator, predicting deformation and force characteristics accurately with significantly less computation time compared to finite element models. The theoretical model is successfully implemented on a three-finger gripper for predicting air pressure required for stable grasp of objects, validated experimentally.

Circular Shell Gripper for Handling Food Products

Zhongkui Wang et al.

Summary: The study proposes a circular shell gripper with a rigid external shell and soft internal air chambers, enabling large grasping force and twisting manipulation. Experimental results demonstrate its capability to handle various objects efficiently, with a pick-and-place task takt time of 2-5 seconds. However, the gripper has limitations in handling low-profile objects due to the downward pressing force.

Modeling and Analysis of Soft Pneumatic Network Bending Actuators

Zhu Liu et al.

Summary: This article presents an analytical model for soft pneumatic network actuators (PneuNets), thoroughly analyzing the bending angle and tip force of PneuNets by considering factors such as bending principle, gap layer deflection, and equilibrium moment. The study shows that by including the deformation of the hyperelastic membrane and Hertzian contact between chambers, the analytical model can effectively predict the bending angle and tip force of PneuNets with an error of less than 10%.

Adaptive Self-Sealing Suction-Based Soft Robotic Gripper

Sukho Song et al.

Summary: The authors proposed a suction-based soft robotic gripper that can self-seal when engaging with irregular shapes and textured surfaces, showing enhanced adhesion. The gripper's major advantages lie in its underactuated self-adaptability and improved suction performance.
