Genomic landscape of a relict fir-associated fungus reveals rapid convergent adaptation towards endophytism

Zhilin Yuan et al.

Summary: Comparative and pan-genomic analyses of the endophytic fungus Pezicula neosporulosa revealed expansions of genes related to carbohydrate metabolism and secondary metabolite biosynthesis in comparison to other plant-beneficial fungi. Population analysis of P. neosporulosa isolates showed a mosaic structure with unique mating system characteristics. Additionally, genes associated with plant cell-wall degradation and secondary metabolite biosynthesis displayed signatures of balancing selection, indicating rapid adaptation and diverse symbiotic interactions.

Pezicula endophytica sp. nov., endophytic in Dendrobium in Thailand

Xiao-ya Ma et al.

Summary: A new species of endophytic Pezicula, named Pezicula endophytica, was discovered in roots and stems of two Dendrobium species in northern Thailand. The identification of the new species was supported by morphology and phylogenetic analysis, showing it as a distinct clade independent from other Pezicula species. Endophytica has larger macroconidia and longer conidiophores compared to its phylogenetic neighbors, marking the first report of an endophytic Pezicula species from Dendrobium in Thailand.

Fungal Communities in the Native New Zealand Medicinal Plant Pseudowintera colorata (Horopito) Are Determined by Plant Organ Type and Host Maturity with Key Members Promoting Plant Growth

Neeraj Purushotham et al.

Summary: The study revealed that plant organs, maturity, and their interactions influence the composition of endophytic fungal communities in Pseudowintera colorata. Certain endophytic fungi were found to enhance the growth of the plant, indicating their potential as biocontrol agents.

Inoculation with Ericoid Mycorrhizal Associations Alleviates Drought Stress in Lowland and Upland Velvetleaf Blueberry (Vaccinium myrtilloides) Seedlings

Deyu Mu et al.

Summary: The study showed that velvetleaf blueberry seedlings may have different drought resistance effects from ericoid mycorrhizal (ERM) fungi in different regions, with lowland plants appearing to benefit more from mycorrhizal colonization.

Endophytes from blueberry roots and their antifungal activity and plant growth enhancement effects

Xiaohe Song et al.

Summary: This study isolated endophytic fungi from blueberry roots and found that the FLR13 strain exhibited strong antifungal effects against various blueberry pathogens, as well as significantly enhanced blueberry growth. These results suggest the potential application of FLR13 in disease control and plant growth enhancement.
