Antioxidant Polyphenols of Antirhea borbonica Medicinal Plant and Caffeic Acid Reduce Cerebrovascular, Inflammatory and Metabolic Disorders Aggravated by High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity in a Mouse Model of Stroke

Janice Taile et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of polyphenols extracted from Antirhea borbonica on obesity and diabetes-related cerebrovascular damages during stroke. The results showed that polyphenols reduced insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia caused by obesity, and attenuated brain infarct, hemorrhagic transformation, and blood-brain barrier disruption. Polyphenols also exhibited anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and decreased MMP-2 activity in hyperglycemic condition. Furthermore, the protective effects of polyphenols were associated with their circulating metabolites.

Ultraprocessed food and chronic noncommunicable diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 43 observational studies

Melissa M. Lane et al.

Summary: This study found that consumption of ultraprocessed foods is associated with risks of overweight, obesity, abdominal obesity, all-cause mortality, depression, and wheezing, as well as cardiometabolic diseases, frailty, and cancer in adults. Further research is needed to define the associations between ultraprocessed food consumption and health outcomes in children and adolescents.
