Pulmonary Diseases Decision Support System Using Deep Learning Approach

Yazan Al-Issa et al.

Summary: Pulmonary diseases are common worldwide, and distinguishing them on chest radiographs is challenging. Image processing techniques and AI models have been developed to accurately diagnose lung diseases. This study analyzed the performance of four popular pretrained models in distinguishing different pulmonary diseases, and suggested that an efficient decision support system can be developed using these approaches.

Elastic Registration-driven Deep Learning for Longitudinal Assessment of Systemic Sclerosis Interstitial Lung Disease at CT

Guillaume Chassagnon et al.

Summary: This study developed a deep learning-based method to detect lung shrinkage based on elastic registration of chest CT scans in SSc patients for depicting worsening of ILD. The classifier showed 80% accuracy in detecting morphologic worsening and 83% accuracy in detecting functional worsening, with Jacobian values correlating with changes in PFT measurements.

Effect of CT reconstruction settings on the performance of a deep learning based lung nodule CAD system

Stephan P. Blazis et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of different reconstruction parameter settings on the performance of a commercially available deep learning pulmonary nodule CAD system. The results show that there is a gradual decrease in recall and an increase in precision as the iterative strength levels are increased. The optimal threshold setting for DL-CAD in clinical workflow was found to be 0.88 with an F-2 score of 0.73.

Deep learning for lung disease segmentation on CT: Which reconstruction kernel should be used?

Trieu-Nghi Hoang-Thi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the best reconstruction kernel for training deep learning models on chest CT scans for lung disease segmentation, finding that using both high and low frequency kernels resulted in better performance than using a single kernel. Models trained on both LK and MK images showed better performance, highlighting the significant impact of reconstruction kernels on deep learning model performance.

Artificial Intelligence Framework for Efficient Detection and Classification of Pneumonia Using Chest Radiography Images

Ali Mohammad Alqudah et al.

Summary: In this study, an artificial intelligence framework was proposed for the detection and classification of pneumonia based on different sizes of input images of chest X-ray imaging. The proposed methodology used CNN as a deep features extractor and achieved an accuracy of 94% for SVM and 93.9% for KNN, with respective sensitivities of 93.33% and 93.19%, and specificities of 96.68% and 96.60% respectively. The CNN was trained, validated, and tested using a large dataset of 5852 chest X-ray images.
