Sleep Problems in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: Prevalence, Treatment, and New Perspectives: A Narrative Review

Marta Ditmer et al.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have shown a correlation between sleep problems and immune and chronic inflammatory diseases. Recognizing sleep disorders as serious public health problems is important, as they are common in the general population. The exact relationship between sleep and immunity is still unclear, but it may be influenced by stress and disruptions in circadian rhythm. Treatment drugs for chronic inflammatory diseases also have complex effects on sleep. Interestingly, sleep can also influence the course of immune diseases. Proper diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders are vital for patients' immune status and overall health.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor is elevated in the blood serum of Crohn's disease patients, but is not influenced by anti-TNF-α treatment-A pilot study

Marcin Sochal et al.

Summary: BDNF level is higher in CD patients compared to healthy controls, with positive correlations with insomnia, pain severity, but not mood. Anti-TNF-alpha therapy did not significantly affect BDNF levels. Further research into BDNF's role in CD may shed light on its relationship with sleep and pain outcomes.

6-month consequences of COVID-19 in patients discharged from hospital: a cohort study (Publication with Expression of Concern. See vol. 401, pg. 90, 2023)

Chaolin Huang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the long-term health consequences of discharged COVID-19 patients and associated risk factors, particularly disease severity. Patients with more severe illness during hospitalization showed more severe impaired pulmonary diffusion capacities and abnormal chest imaging manifestations, highlighting the need for targeted interventions for long-term recovery.

Medical Students and SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination: Attitude and Behaviors

Bartosz Szmyd et al.

Summary: A study surveyed medical and non-medical students' attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination, finding that the majority of students expressed willingness to get vaccinated, with medical students showing higher intention. The most common concern regarding COVID-19 infection was the risk of transmitting the disease to elderly relatives.

Attitude and Behaviors towards SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination among Healthcare Workers: A Cross-Sectional Study from Poland

Bartosz Szmyd et al.

Summary: The study found that Polish healthcare workers are more willing to be vaccinated against COVID-19, but there are concerns about long-term side effects and the impact of depression on vaccination willingness. Positive medical history of recommended vaccinations, fear of infection, and fear of passing on the disease to relatives can strengthen the readiness to be vaccinated, but overall vaccination desire needs to be improved.

Long covid-mechanisms, risk factors, and management

Harry Crook et al.

Summary: The long-term effects of covid-19 can affect multiple systems in the body, leading to persistent symptoms that impact patients of varying severity. These symptoms include fatigue, dyspnea, and cognitive impairment, among others. Studies discuss risk factors for acute and long covid, as well as potential therapeutic options.
