Clinically Suspected Myocarditis Temporally Related to COVID-19 Vaccination in Adolescents and Young Adults: Suspected Myocarditis After COVID-19 Vaccination

Dongngan T. Truong et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics and short-term outcomes of young individuals with suspected myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccination. The results showed that most cases of suspected myocarditis had a mild clinical course with rapid resolution of symptoms, and abnormal findings on cardiac MRI were frequent.

Myocarditis Cases Reported After mRNA-Based COVID-19 Vaccination in the US From December 2020 to August 2021

Matthew E. Oster et al.

Summary: Based on reports in the US, the risk of myocarditis after receiving mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines was increased, especially among adolescent males and young men, particularly after the second dose. This risk should be considered in the context of the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination.

Myocardial Injury Pattern at MRI in COVID-19 Vaccine-associated Myocarditis

Matteo Fronza et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the myocardial injury in patients with COVID-19 vaccine-associated myocarditis. The findings showed that compared to other causes of myocarditis, vaccine-associated myocarditis had less severe myocardial injury with fewer abnormalities. There were no adverse events during the short-term follow-up.

CMR Imaging 6 Months After Myocarditis Associated with the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine

Gabriel Amir et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively collected clinical follow-up and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) data from 15 patients with myocarditis after receiving the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. The results showed that myocarditis usually occurs within the first week after receiving the second dose of the vaccine, predominantly in males. Over time, the symptoms of the patients improved, but some patients still had myocardial scarring.

Comparison of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children-Related Myocarditis, Classic Viral Myocarditis, and COVID-19 Vaccine-Related Myocarditis in Children

Trisha Patel et al.

Summary: This study compares classic viral myocarditis, MIS-C myocarditis, and COVID-19 vaccine-related myocarditis in terms of clinical presentation, course, and outcomes. Compared to classic myocarditis, patients with MIS-C myocarditis have better clinical outcomes, including rapid recovery of cardiac function. Patients with vaccine-related myocarditis have prompt resolution of symptoms and improvement of cardiac function.

Clinical Features and Burden of Postacute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Children and Adolescents

Suchitra Rao et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the symptoms, health conditions, and medications associated with PASC in children under 21 years old. The study found that myocarditis was the most common PASC-associated condition, and that acute illness severity, young age, and comorbid complex chronic disease increased the risk of PASC.

Follow-up cardiac magnetic resonance in children with vaccine-associated myocarditis

Stephanie M. Hadley et al.

Summary: This article studied the trajectory of myocardial recovery and natural history of vaccine-associated myocarditis in COVID-19 patients. Follow-up CMR showed improvement of LGE in all patients, but persistent in the majority. Long-term follow-up should be considered to better understand cardiac risks.

Ruixuan Jiang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate US norms for EQ-5D-5L using face-to-face and online samples, with the latter showing consistently lower utility and EQ VAS values compared to the former. Availability of these norms aids in interpreting general population and patient health.

Guy Witberg et al.

Summary: Among 2.5 million patients who received the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine in a large Israeli health care system, the incidence of myocarditis at 42 days was 2.13 cases per 100,000 persons, with the highest incidence (10.69 per 100,000 persons) among male patients between the ages of 16 and 29 years. Diagnosis and Management of Myocarditis in Children A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association

Yuk M. Law et al.

Summary: Myocarditis remains a clinical challenge in pediatrics, with diagnostic focus shifting from endomyocardial biopsy to clinical suspicion and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The presentation of myocarditis varies widely, ranging from minimal symptoms to severe complications like heart failure or cardiogenic shock. Despite advances in understanding and management, the lack of a universally accepted definition for myocarditis hinders progress in targeted therapy.

Supriya S. Jain et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the clinical presentation, short-term prognosis, and myocardial tissue changes in pediatric patients with C-VAM. The results showed that most patients had mild myocarditis and excellent short-term outcomes, with resolution of symptoms, arrhythmias, and ventricular dysfunction. Further studies are needed to understand the long-term implications of these myocardial tissue changes.
