Atomic Structure and Lattice Dynamics of CoSb3 Skutterudite-Based Thermoelectrics

Joao Elias F. S. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The local and electronic structures of CoSb3 skutterudite were evaluated using X-ray absorption technique. The analysis of extended X-ray absorption fine-structure oscillations at the Sb K-edge confirmed the body-centered cubic phase. The valence states of Co and Sb in CoSb3 were estimated based on the edge shift values, suggesting partial charge transfer from the metal to the pnictide element. The boundaries of short- and long-range order techniques for structural characterization of skutterudite-based thermoelectrics were established by comparing the results with those obtained from X-ray diffraction.

Enhanced Thermoelectric Performance in Ternary Skutterudite Co(Ge0.5Te0.5)3 via Band Engineering

Suneesh Meledath Valiyaveettil et al.

Summary: We report the phase evolution and thermoelectric properties of a series of Co(Ge0.5Te0.5)(3-x)Sb-x compositions synthesized by mechanical alloying. Sb doping induces a structural transition and increases carrier concentration and thermopower. The carrier transport from both primary and secondary conduction bands contributes to the exceptional electronic properties. Twisting the phosphorus rings by replacing Sb-4 rings with Ge2Te2 ones effectively reduces thermal conductivity and enhances the dimensionless figure-of-merit (zT).

Atomistic insights into highly active reconstructed edges of monolayer 2H-WSe2 photocatalyst

Mohammad Qorbani et al.

Summary: Systematic study of in-plane intrinsic defects and edge atoms is important for the design of low-dimensional photocatalysts. This study investigates the photocatalytic CO2 reduction to CH4 over reconstructed edge atoms of monolayer semiconducting WSe2. The results demonstrate that the consumed electron rate per edge atom is higher than the in-plane intrinsic defects, and nanoscale redox mapping confirms that the edge is the preferred region for charge transfer. These findings pave the way for designing a new class of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides as non-precious co-catalysts for hydrogen evolution or CO2 reduction reactions.

High efficiency GeTe-based materials and modules for thermoelectric power generation

Tong Xing et al.

Summary: GeTe-based materials have shown great potential in thermoelectric generators for waste heat recovery. A high-energy conversion efficiency of 7.8% was achieved in a GeTe-based thermoelectric module. By using a high-throughput strategy, Mo was identified as an effective diffusion barrier material, leading to the fabrication of a module with comparable energy conversion efficiency to other materials.
