Ultrahigh Power Factor of Ternary Composites with Abundant Se Nanowires for Thermoelectric Application

Linan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrahigh-performance ternary nanocomposite films consisting of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), selenium nanowires (Se NWs), and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) were successfully designed. The addition of SWCNTs significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity of the films, leading to a remarkable increase in the power factor. The optimized composite films were used to fabricate a flexible thermoelectric (TE) generator prototype, which demonstrated a high output power.

Synergistically Optimized Electron and Phonon Transport of Polycrystalline BiCuSeO via Pb and Yb Co-Doping

Zhanxiang Yin et al.

Summary: Dual doping of Pb and Yb into BiCuSeO through ball milling and high-pressure and high-temperature sintering enhances the carrier concentration and suppresses the decrease in carrier mobility by coordinating with the interplay of Pb and Yb dopants on the electronic structure. The synergistic optimization of the electrical and thermal properties, combined with abundant grain boundaries, dislocations, and point defects introduced by Pb&Yb co-doping, effectively decreases the lattice thermal conductivity and achieves a maximum zT of 1.2 in Bi0.88Pb0.06Yb0.06CuSeO at 850 K, surpassing the majority of oxygen-containing thermoelectric materials.

Summary: This work reports a record high thermoelectric figure-of-merit ZT of 1.6 +/- 0.2 at 873 K in p-type polycrystalline Bi0.94Pb0.06CuSe1.01O0.99 through rational band manipulation and novel nanostructural design. By reducing carrier concentration through Se substitution, implementing Pb-doping triggered lattice distortions, and utilizing a shear exfoliation technique for grain refinement, the lattice thermal conductivity was reduced and the power factor was improved, leading to the high ZT value.
