Functional seed traits and germination patterns predict species coexistence in Northeast Mediterranean foredune communities

Silvia Del Vecchio et al.

Summary: This study explored the link between seed germination niche and plant community ecology in the foredune community of the Veneto coast, Italy. Different seed germination strategies were identified, with implications for species coexistence and potential impacts of climate events on community structure.

Native plant community recovery afterCarpobrotus(ice plant) removal on an island - results of a 10-year project

Elise Buisson et al.

Summary: Species of the genus Carpobrotus, or ice plant, are widely introduced for soil stabilization in coastal environments, posing a threat to island biodiversity. This study in southern France found that removal of Carpobrotus led to the recovery of diverse native plant communities, with follow-up controls needed for at least seven years to prevent its return. The plant communities on both coastal and inland sites showed positive recovery dynamics, with some slow-growing native species still underrepresented.

Disentangling native and alien plant diversity in coastal sand dune ecosystems worldwide

Enrico Tordoni et al.

Summary: The research aimed to uncover global patterns of native and alien plant diversity in coastal sand dune ecosystems, determine the main drivers of species richness, and test for an interaction between spatial scale and native-alien richness patterns. The study found strong differences in native and alien species richness, with anthropogenic factors being more closely associated with alien richness while native richness was more related to environmental factors.
