Double diffusive convective transport and entropy generation in an annular space filled with alumina-water nanoliquid

H. A. Kumara Swamy et al.

Summary: In many engineering and industrial applications, energy transport often leads to entropy generation, which degrades system efficiency. This article investigates the rate of entropy generation and thermal and solutal transport in a nanoliquid-filled annular enclosure, aiming to minimize entropy generation and enhance system efficiency. The study examines the effects of various parameters on fluid movement, temperature, concentration, and entropy production, and finds that aided flow results in higher entropy generation compared to opposing flow. Additionally, it is discovered that a shallow annulus can achieve higher thermal and solutal performance rates with minimal system energy loss (entropy generation).

Summary: This study models the activity of gyrotactic organisms in a micropolar fluid with simultaneous heat and mass transfer, considering thermal diffusion and diffusion thermo effects. The addition of nano-sized particles changes the rheological characteristics of the base fluid. The mathematical models are solved numerically using the finite element method, and the impact of key parameters on field variables is analyzed through numerical experiments. The results show that vortex viscosity, curvature parameter, concentration gradient, and Soret number have significant effects on the linear and angular motion of fluid particles, as well as on heat and solute diffusion.

Numerical analysis of heat and mass transfer in micropolar nanofluids flow through lid driven cavity: Finite volume approach

Saima Batool et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the heat and mass transfer mechanism of a micropolar nanofluid embedded with buoyancy force and magnetic field. The mathematical model is constructed using mass, energy, and momentum equations, and numerical simulations are performed using the finite volume approach. The study finds that the random mobility of nanoparticles leads to more heat emission inside the enclosure, and mass diffusion is faster for smaller Schmidt numbers. Additionally, a high vortex viscosity parameter has a significant effect when thermophoresis parameter and Reynolds number are significant.

The effects of hybrid nanoparticles volume friction, second-order velocity slip condition, and temperature-dependent viscosity are analyzed. The results show that the thermal conductivity of (CNTs - Fe3O4)/H2O hybrid nanofluids is higher with higher value of hybrid nanoparticle volume fraction, and that higher temperature-dependent viscosity and second-order velocity slip parameters lead to reduced momentum boundary layer and increased thermal boundary layer.
