Event-Triggered Approximate Optimal Path-Following Control for Unmanned Surface Vehicles With State Constraints

Weixiang Zhou et al.

Summary: This article investigates the problem of path following for underactuated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) subject to state constraints. A control algorithm is proposed that combines the backstepping technique, adaptive dynamic programming (ADP), and the event-triggered mechanism. The algorithm consists of three modules: guidance law, dynamic controller, and event triggering. By introducing the guidance-based path-following (GBPF) principle and using a critic neural network (NN) to approximate the cost function, the proposed approach can handle the "singularity" problem and guarantee approximate optimal performance. The simulation results and experimental validation demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

Path following of under-actuated ships based on model predictive control with state observer

Zongxuan Li et al.

Summary: A MPC method with LESO is proposed to tackle the path following issues for under-actuated surface ships without velocity measurements, addressing input constraints, uncertain parameters, and external disturbances. LOS guidance algorithm and variable acceptable radius approach are used for path following and heading control, while Norrbin model and LESO are employed for handling heading control and input constraints to enhance controller robustness and accuracy.

Global finite-time control for coordinated path following of multiple underactuated unmanned surface vehicles along one curve under directed topologies

Mingcong Li et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a coordinated path following strategy for underactuated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) based on distributed control with directed topologies. It uses a finite-time extended state observer to estimate velocities and uncertainties, and a line-of-sight based guidance law for tracking desired paths. Additionally, a cooperative update law and control subsystem are designed to ensure stability and robustness of the system. The proposed strategy is validated through numerical simulations.

Coordinated target tracking by multiple unmanned surface vehicles with communication delays based on a distributed event-triggered extended state observer

Shengnan Gao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a resource-aware event-triggered control design method for coordinated target tracking of a network of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), where distributed event-triggered extended state observer (ESO) is utilized for estimating the position and velocity of the target. The proposed method proves effective in achieving cooperative target tracking while reducing model uncertainty and external disturbances, as well as decreasing the execution rate of actuators and communication burden of the network.

Reduced-Order Observer-Based Dynamic Event-Triggered Adaptive NN Control for Stochastic Nonlinear Systems Subject to Unknown Input Saturation

Lijie Wang et al.

Summary: This article presents a dynamic event-triggered control scheme for stochastic nonlinear systems with unknown input saturation and partially unmeasured states. A dynamic event-triggered mechanism and an improved neural network are designed to achieve resource efficiency and to approximate unknown nonlinear terms. An auxiliary system is constructed to handle asymmetric input saturation, and a reduced-order observer is presented for estimating partially unmeasured states, with theoretical evidence of achieving desired control objectives. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is illustrated through examples of a one-link manipulator system and a three-degree-of-freedom ship maneuvering system.
