Criticality in sheared, disordered solids. II. Correlations in avalanche dynamics

Joel T. Clemmer et al.

Summary: In disordered solids, intermittent avalanche plastic activity in response to quasi-static shear is observed, characterized by distinct temporal power spectra. As strain rate increases, the white-noise regime shrinks and disappears due to constraints on avalanche size. A new theory is developed for power spectra in both quasi-static and finite-strain-rate regimes, validated using molecular dynamics simulations.
