Effects of the initial axial strain state on the response to transverse stress of high-performance RRP Nb3Sn wires

J. Ferradas Troitino et al.

Summary: This study extensively investigates the electro-mechanical response of high-performance Nb3Sn superconducting wires under transverse loads, revealing that it depends on initial axial strain condition but converges to common behavior when the main direction load becomes predominant. By combining critical current measurements under loads in both axial and transverse directions, new insights into the mechanisms behind critical current degradation have been gained.

The High Luminosity LHC interaction region magnets towards series production

E. Todesco et al.

Summary: The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) is a flagship project of CERN aiming to increase LHC collision statistics by a factor of ten. This upgrade relies on cutting edge technologies, involves the construction of around 150 magnets of different types, and is transitioning from validation through short models and prototypes to series construction.

Test of Superconducting Wires and Rutherford Cables With High Specific Heat

E. Barzi et al.

Summary: This study examines the feasibility of increasing the specific heat of Rutherford-type cables by utilizing a thin composite Cu/Gd2O3 tape to reduce sudden heat depositions in high-field accelerator magnets. Experimental results show that wires and cables equipped with this high-Cp tape exhibit higher gains in Minimum Quench Energy (MQE) testing.
