Diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound to differentiate benign and malignant breast lesions: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in differentiating benign and malignant breast lesions. The results showed that CEUS had relatively high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing malignant breast lesions. Subgroup analysis also revealed that patients' age and contrast agents might affect the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS.

Ensemble Deep-Learning-Enabled Clinical Decision Support System for Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Classification on Ultrasound Images

Mahmoud Ragab et al.

Summary: This study developed an Ensemble Deep-Learning-Enabled Clinical Decision Support System for the diagnosis and classification of breast cancer using ultrasound images. The system utilizes image pre-processing, segmentation techniques, and deep learning models for feature extraction and machine learning classifier for breast cancer detection. The system aims to assist radiologists and healthcare professionals in the breast cancer classification process.

Burden, trends, and risk factors for breast cancer in China from 1990 to 2019 and its predictions until 2034: an up-to-date overview and comparison with those in Japan and South Korea

Na Liu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the burden, trends, and risk factors of breast cancer (BC) in China, Japan, and South Korea from 1990 to 2019 and predicted the future burden until 2034. It was found that China had the highest burden of BC among the three countries, and the incidence and mortality rates were projected to increase, especially among Chinese males. Effective prevention and management strategies are urgently needed for BC control in China.

The Importance of Superb Microvascular Imaging for the Differentiation of Malignant Breast Lesions from Benign Lesions

Fatma Zeynep Arslan et al.

Summary: This prospective study evaluated the diagnostic performance of the new version of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in differentiating malignant from benign lesions. The results showed that using box ROI was more effective in distinguishing between malignant and benign lesions when compared to free-hand ROI.

Added Value of the Vascular Index on Superb Microvascular Imaging for the Evaluation of Breast Masses Comparison With Grayscale Ultrasound

Eun Young Chae et al.

Summary: The vascular index (VI) on Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI) was found to be significantly higher for malignant breast masses compared to benign lesions, with high interobserver agreement. Therefore, the combination of grayscale US and SMI with VI may improve the characterization of breast masses.

Reproducibility and diagnostic performance of the vascular index of superb microvascular imaging in real-time breast ultrasonography for evaluating breast masses

Eun Ji Lee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the quantitative parameter of superb microvascular imaging (VI) in breast ultrasound has high reproducibility and, when combined with B-mode ultrasound, can help differentiate between benign and malignant breast lesions. The addition of VI significantly improves the accuracy and specificity of the diagnosis.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Superb Microvascular Imaging Technology Can Improve the Diagnostic Efficiency of the BI-RADS System

Siman Cai et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the diagnostic efficiency of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in breast lesions by evaluating vascular index (VI) and vascular architecture (VA). SMI combined with conventional ultrasound showed improved diagnostic specificity, accuracy, and positive predictive value (PPV) without compromising diagnostic sensitivity. A VI value of 4.05 was identified as a cut-off value with good diagnostic efficacy, while root hair-like and crab claw-like VAs were found to be characteristic of malignant lesions.

Comparison of the Effectiveness of Shear Wave Elastography and Superb Microvascular Imaging in the Evaluation of Breast Masses

Emine Uysal et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and shear wave elastography in evaluating breast lesions. Stiffness was found to be the best parameter for distinguishing malignant from benign masses, although both SMI and shear wave elastography provided valuable quantitative data for differentiation.
