The quantitative evaluation of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the differentiation of small renal cell carcinoma subtypes and angiomyolipoma

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that CEUS quantitative parameters have important diagnostic value in differentiating small renal cell carcinoma from angiomyolipoma and distinguishing clear cell renal cell carcinoma from papillary renal cell carcinoma and chromophobe renal cell carcinoma.

The Value of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in Diagnosing Small Renal Cell Carcinoma Subtypes and Angiomyolipoma

Hongli Cao et al.

Summary: The study retrospectively explored the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in differentiating small renal cell carcinomas from angiomyolipomas, and distinguishing between clear cell RCC, papillary RCC, and chromophobe RCC. Results showed that perilesional rim-like enhancement and fast wash out were related to RCC, with perilesional rim-like enhancement having a higher specificity in predicting RCC. The combination of two characteristics showed high sensitivity and specificity for differentiating RCC from AML, while enhancement intensity was effective in distinguishing between different RCC subtypes.

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) in the Evaluation of Renal Masses with Histopathological Validation-Results from a Prospective Single-Center Study

Antonio Tufano et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in distinguishing between malignant and benign renal lesions. The results showed that CEUS can effectively differentiate between malignant and benign lesions based on morphological, qualitative, and quantitative parameters. CEUS improves the accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis and can guide clinical treatment.

Characteristics of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for diagnosis of solid clear cell renal cell carcinomas ≤4 cm: A meta-analysis

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the ability of CEUS to diagnose solid ccRCC <= 4 cm, finding that hyperenhancement, fast-in contrast agent, and heterogeneous enhancement may be specific features that could help to identify this subtype of kidney cancer, while the presence of a pseudocapsule and fast-out of contrast agent may have low diagnostic values. Multiple indexes combination may improve the diagnostic value of CEUS for solid ccRCC <= 4 cm.

Performance of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in Thyroid Nodules: Review of Current State and Future Perspectives

Maija Radzina et al.

Summary: Ultrasound is a baseline imaging technique for thyroid nodules, with the advantage of CEUS in assessing vascular perfusion and hemodynamics in real-time for differentiation between benign and malignant nodules. Despite the need for standardization due to overlapping features, further research may lead to reliable performance of CEUS in detecting or excluding thyroid cancer.

Prospective Comparison of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Computer Tomography for the Evaluation of Complex Cystic Renal Lesions

Summary: In this study, the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS and MRI compared to CT for cystic renal lesions was evaluated, demonstrating that CEUS has excellent sensitivity and NPV, making it a promising non-invasive screening tool. Additionally, the classification of complex renal cysts based on MRI and CT scans showed close correlation.
