Synergetic adsorption and photo-Fenton degradation of methylene blue by ZnFe2O4/SiO2 magnetic double-mesoporous-shelled hollow spheres

Xing Huang et al.

Summary: ZnFe2O4/SiO2 magnetic double-mesoporous-shelled hollow spheres synthesized by solvothermal method exhibited excellent adsorption and selectivity for methylene blue, reaching adsorption equilibrium in just 1 minute. 50% of methylene blue was removed by adsorption, while the remaining 50% was degraded in further photo-Fenton process, achieving a total organic carbon reduction rate of up to 90% in 90 minutes. The composite displayed remarkable adsorption and catalytic activity in a wide pH range of 3.3-11.0, along with good stability and reusability.

Summary: The study introduces a new platform for encapsulating and releasing anionic surfactants in nanosized capsules. By incorporating DOWFAX surfactant molecules into sub-100 nm hollow silica nanoparticles, a higher release of surfactants is achieved at higher temperatures. The nanoparticles are effective in altering the wettability of hydrophobic surfaces and reducing interfacial tension, demonstrating a sustained release profile over a span of days.

Summary: Porous alumina for aqueous and gaseous filtration applications was fabricated via spark plasma sintering (SPS) in this study. By optimizing temperature/pressure cyclograms during SPS, the alumina filter effectively removed particulates of size -15 mu m (GNPs) and 3 mu m (soot) in both water and gas testing. The study demonstrates the excellent filtration ability of SPS processed Al2O3 filters for various applications.

Zn0.8Cd0.2S Hollow Spheres with a Highly Dispersed Ni Dopant for Boosting Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation

Ying Luo et al.

Summary: The Ni-doped Zn0.8Cd0.2S hollow sphere photocatalyst achieved goals of promoting charge separation, increasing surface active sites, and enhancing photocatalytic activity. Ni doping reduced the band structure of the substrate, suppressed the recombination of photoinduced electrons and holes, and provided more reactive sites. The significant increase in photocatalytic H-2 evolution rate demonstrated the success of the Ni-doped ZnxCd1-xS for improved stability.
