Development of DNA intercalative, HSA binder pyridine-based novel Schiff base Cu(II), Ni(II) complexes with effective anticancer property: A combined experimental and theoretical approach

Dibyendu Satapathi et al.

Summary: Two novel Cu(II) complexes and one Ni(II) complex have been developed and characterized for their structure and properties, including their binding ability with DNA and human serum albumin. Experimental methods and molecular docking studies confirmed the binding potential of these complexes with DNA and HSA, as well as their anticancer properties. The nuclear staining study revealed the nuclear morphological changes in cancer cells and suggested the activation of apoptotic pathways.

Property evaluation of two anticancer candidate platinum complexes with N-isobutyl glycine ligand against human colon cancer

Zahra Hosseini-Hashemi et al.

Summary: This study synthesized and characterized two complexes based on Pt(II), N-isobutylglycine (IBgly), 2,2'-bipyridine, and ammonia. The complexes showed potential for Pt-based anti-cancer drugs and exhibited good inhibitory effects on human colon cancer cells. The mechanisms of interaction between the complexes and DNA were studied using various spectroscopic methods, and the results suggested a static quenching mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters, molecular docking, and density functional theory calculations supported the experimental findings.

Mining anion-aromatic interactions in the Protein Data Bank

Emilia Kuzniak-Glanowska et al.

Summary: Mutual positioning and non-covalent interactions between anions and aromatic motifs play a crucial role in the functional performance of biological systems. A comprehensive screening of the Protein Data Bank (PDB) led to the identification of numerous unique anion-aromatic motifs, highlighting the importance of ion-π interactions in these motifs.

Summary: Two new anticancer platinum complexes, [Pt(DACH)(13DMPG)]NO3 and [Pt(bpy)(13DMPG)]NO3, show drug-like properties and oral medication potential with effective antiproliferative effects on MCF-7 cell line. Additionally, [Pt(DACH)(13DMPG)]NO3 exhibits better inhibition compared to [Pt(bpy)(13DMPG)]NO3.
