Emerging applications of TiO2/SiO2/poly(acrylamide) nanocomposites within the engineered water EOR in carbonate reservoirs

Jagar A. Ali et al.

Summary: In this study, a newly-developed nano enhanced oil recovery (EOR) agent using TiO2/SiO2/poly(acrylamide) nanocomposites (NCs) extracted from pomegranate seeds was proposed. Characterization of the NCs was analyzed through various techniques, and smart solutions were prepared for EOR applications. The performance of the smart water solutions was found to be significantly improved by adding the prepared NCs, leading to increased oil recovery efficiency.

Experimental Investigation of Polymer-Coated Silica Nanoparticles for EOR under Harsh Reservoir Conditions of High Temperature and Salinity

Alberto Bila et al.

Summary: Laboratory experiments have shown that nanoparticle (NPs) flooding can lead to higher oil recovery rates, mainly through changes in wettability and reduction of interfacial tension. However, gaps still exist in understanding the interactions induced by NPs. This study investigated the performance of four types of polymer-coated silica NPs in harsh reservoir conditions and found that NP aggregation led to decreased core permeability, affecting oil sweep efficiency.
