Deasphalting of heavy crude oil by hexamethyldisiloxane: The effect of a solvent/oil ratio on the structure, composition, and properties of precipitated asphaltenes

Sergey O. Ilyin et al.

Summary: The use of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) for deasphalting heavy crude oil results in higher compound precipitation efficiency compared to traditional aliphatic hydrocarbons like pentane or heptane. The resulting products include asphaltenes, polyaromatic compounds, resins, and paraffin waxes, with the product yield increasing with the HMDSO/crude oil ratio up to a maximum at 15/1 ratio. However, the yield decreases with further increase due to changes in compound composition. Despite variations in structure and composition, all resulting products exhibit viscoelastic liquid behavior above 60 degrees C, allowing for different processing methods.

Development of a new chemical solvent package for increasing the asphaltene removal performance under static and dynamic conditions

Azizollah Khormali et al.

Summary: TPMDS is an effective solvent package for asphaltene removal, showing high efficiency in various oil samples and reducing pressure drop in carbonate core samples. It also significantly improves rock permeability and does not decrease in performance even with an increase in asphaltene precipitation.

Data-Driven Connectionist Models for Performance Prediction of Low Salinity Waterflooding in Sandstone Reservoirs

Afshin Tatar et al.

Summary: Low salinity waterflooding (LSWF) and its variants, known as smart water or ion tuned water injection, are promising enhanced oil recovery methods. This research utilized artificial intelligence models to develop predictive models, with CMIS model demonstrating superior performance in predicting the impact of parameters on recovery factor. The assembled database can be used for further optimization of LSWF process.
