Ellagitannin, Phenols, and Flavonoids as Antibacterials from Acalypha arvensis (Euphorbiaceae)

Ever A. Ble-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study reported the isolation, characterization, and antibacterial screening of 8 natural products from the aerial parts of Acalypha arvensis. The ethanolic extract showed the best antibacterial activity against various bacterial strains, and corilagin was identified as the main chemical responsible for the observed activity. Other compounds such as chlorogenic acid, rutin, quercetin-3-O-glucoside, and caffeic acid were also identified. This plant can be considered as a good alternative for treating health-related issues caused by bacteria.
