Evaluation of summer and winter cover crops for variations in host suitability for Meloidogyne incognita, M. arenaria and M. javanica

Josiah Marquez et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the host status of different cover crop candidates for reducing the reproduction of root-knot nematode populations. The results suggest that gall formation is not a reliable indication of nematode reproduction, and there are inconsistencies in the host status of cover crops for different nematode species, which may explain the discrepancies between greenhouse and field trials.

Nematicidal Activity of Essential Oil from Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia Emeric ex Loisel.) as Related to Chemical Profile

Trifone D'Addabbo et al.

Summary: The study found that essential oils from three different lavandin cultivars exhibit toxicity against root-knot nematodes and lesion nematodes, with linalool being the major component. Linalool acetate, camphor, and 1,8-cineole were also identified as significant compounds in the lavandin essential oils, showing suppressive activity against nematodes and affecting egg hatchability. Additionally, soil treatments with lavandin essential oils resulted in reduced nematode density and gall formation on tomato roots, as well as promoting tomato plant growth.

Chemical Analysis and Anthelmintic Activity Against Teladorsagia Circumcincta of Nordic Bark Extracts In vitro

Spiridoula Athanasiadou et al.

Summary: The study showed that bark extracts from commercially used trees in Scandinavia have the potential to be used as alternatives to anthelmintics. The total condensed tannin content was higher in the bark from younger pine and spruce trees, decreased with tree age in pine, while remained relatively stable in spruce and birch bark. The anthelmintic activity of bark extracts varied and was influenced by the tree age and species.
