Exploring Potential of Seed Endophytic Bacteria for Enhancing Drought Stress Resilience in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Sulman Siddique et al.

Summary: Water scarcity, caused by human activities, is a major abiotic stress that threatens agriculture and food security. This study explores the effectiveness of seed endophytic bacteria in maize crops under water deficit conditions. The results show that four isolates (SM1, SM4, SM19, and SM23) significantly improve the growth of maize under normal and drought conditions.

Using plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) to improve plant development under in vitro culture conditions

Daniel Cantabella et al.

Summary: The use of beneficial microorganisms improves the performance of in vitro-cultured plants through the improvement of plant nutrition, the biological control of microbial pathogens, or the production of phytohormones that promote plant growth and development. In vitro culture techniques are highly useful to obtain significant amounts of true-to-type and disease-free plant materials, but the efficiency of these techniques can be limited by recalcitrant genotypes and endophytic contaminations. Beneficial interactions between plants and plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) can efficiently solve these limitations.

Eradication of Potato Virus S, Potato Virus A, and Potato Virus M From Infected in vitro-Grown Potato Shoots Using in vitro Therapies

Jean Carlos Bettoni et al.

Summary: This study presents a reliable and efficient method for eradicating viruses in potatoes, which is more effective than current methods. Through testing various treatments, the combination of chemotherapy and cryotherapy, or consecutive chemotherapy, combined chemotherapy and thermotherapy, followed by cryotherapy, showed the best results in virus eradication. This improved method has the potential to produce virus-free planting material for the potato industry and facilitate the exchange of virus-free germplasm globally.

Role of Rhizospheric Bacillus megaterium HGS7 in Maintaining Mulberry Growth Under Extremely Abiotic Stress in Hydro-Fluctuation Belt of Three Gorges Reservoir

Ting Ou et al.

Summary: The study found that Bacillus megaterium HGS7 has the ability to promote plant growth, enhance stress tolerance, and produce antimicrobial compounds. It exhibited antagonistic activity against phytopathogens and stimulated mulberry seed germination and seedling growth in vitro. Moreover, this strain can enhance drought tolerance and accelerate growth recovery in mulberry trees by inducing the production of proline and antioxidant enzymes.

Challenges in implementing plant shoot tip cryopreservation technologies

Jean Carlos Bettoni et al.

Summary: Successful implementation of plant shoot tip cryopreservation projects requires clear goals, long-term funding, skilled technical support staff, and necessary infrastructure. Cryopreservation is a safe approach for long-term preservation, but challenges such as technology transfer and protocol validation must be addressed. Multiple factors including plant material quality, method selection, and personnel training contribute to the success of cryopreservation projects.

Chemotherapy of apple shoots in vitro as method of viruses eradication

N. Romadanova et al.

Summary: Studies have shown the widespread prevalence of viral, bacterial, and fungal diseases on apple commercial varieties and clonal rootstocks. This paper presents the results of eradicating viruses from in vitro shoots of apple varieties using chemotherapy, with the most effective concentration of Ribavirin being at 50 mg/L. A virus-free in vitro collection was established for creating a cryobank of shoot tips and obtaining virus-free planting stocks, with high rates of in vitro shoots rooting and survival.

Felizitas Bajerski et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the potential risks of microbial cross contaminations in modern biobanks during long-term storage and provides recommendations to minimize the risks. The results suggest that the risk of microbial cross contamination in LN storage tanks is relatively low, and following standard operating procedures can effectively reduce the probability of cross contamination.

Endophytic Bacteria in Banana In Vitro Cultures: Molecular Identification, Antibiotic Susceptibility, and Plant Survival

Antar Nasr El-Banna et al.

Summary: This study identified and controlled bacterial contaminants in banana in vitro cultures, showing that certain antibiotics had a broader range of bactericidal activity. Treatment with antibiotics could eliminate bacteria in contaminated banana cultures, but also led to a reduction in shoot multiplication and growth. These findings contribute to minimizing losses in commercial banana micropropagation.
