Characterization of the sugarcane MYC gene family and the negative regulatory role of ShMYC4 in response to pathogen stress

Yongjuan Ren et al.

Summary: The study identified and classified MYC genes in sugarcane, revealing their important role in plant stress responses and the presence of various cis-regulatory elements in their promoter regions. RNA sequencing and real-time PCR analysis showed differential expression of MYC genes in different sugarcane tissues and under S. scitamineum stress. A novel ShMYC4 gene was cloned and found to be associated with negative response to S. scitamineum in sugarcane cultivars, highlighting its potential role in defense responses.

Characterization of silicon transporter gene family in Saccharum and functional analysis of the ShLsi6 gene in biotic stress

Guangli Cen et al.

Summary: Silicon is beneficial for plant growth and defense, and the silicon transporter gene plays an important role in the uptake and transport of silicon in plants. In this study, 32 Lsi genes were identified in sugarcane and classified into three groups. The proteins encoded by Lsi genes showed specific features and the gene family expanded through duplication events. Collinearity analysis revealed the relationship between different species. The diverse cis-regulatory elements in the promoter regions suggested the involvement of Lsi genes in plant stress responses and growth regulation. Transcriptional and expression analysis demonstrated different expression profiles of Lsi genes under different conditions. The study also cloned a homologous gene and showed its sensitivity to tobacco pathogens. This study provides important information for further functional analysis of Lsi genes and resistant breeding in sugarcane.

Structure of the Arabidopsis Glutamate Receptor-like Channel GLR3.2 Ligand-Binding Domain

Shanti Pal Gangwar et al.

Summary: The structures of Arabidopsis thaliana GLR3.2 LBD show similarities to iGluRs, but with differences in certain secondary structure elements. Mutation R133A significantly increases channel constitutive activity, suggesting that mutating the critical residue for agonist binding leads to a more stable closed clamshell conformation.

Summary: This study reports a novel GLR-encoding gene, Fov7, which confers resistance to Fov race 7 in Upland cotton. A single nucleotide polymorphism in GhGLR4.8 is associated with Fov resistance, and a PCR-based DNA marker has been developed. Knockout of Fov7 using CRISPR/Cas9 technology results in cotton lines extremely susceptible to Fov race 7.

Summary: Carotenoid cleavage oxygenases (CCOs) are crucial for plant growth and response to different stresses. This study identified and characterized CCO genes in Saccharum spontaneum and Saccharum spp. R570, providing valuable information for future investigation into their functions. Evolutionary mechanisms and expression patterns of CCO genes in response to various stresses were explored.
