Gait Impairment in Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review

Anthony Dever et al.

Summary: This article examines the objective assessment of gait impairments across the spectrum of traumatic brain injury (TBI). After searching databases for relevant research articles, 13 studies were included in the review. The findings suggest that gait impairments exist in patients with mild, moderate, and severe TBI, but methodological limitations were found in all studies. The authors recommend future studies to establish a standardized gait assessment procedure and consistent protocols to determine gait impairment in TBI.

Effect of Dual-Task Motor-Cognitive Training in Preventing Falls in Vulnerable Elderly Cerebrovascular Patients: A Pilot Study

Barbara Spano et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of an advanced dual-task motor-cognitive rehabilitation program on fall risks in vulnerable older persons with chronic cerebrovascular diseases (CVD). The results showed that the rehabilitation program significantly improved patients' walking balance, gait, walking speed, and fear of falling, while reducing the risk of falls. Moreover, simultaneous motor-cognitive training was found to be more effective than sequential training.

Individuals with Chronic Mild-to-Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury Exhibit Decreased Neuromuscular Complexity During Gait

Samuel A. Acuna et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neuromuscular complexity during gait in individuals with chronic balance deficits caused by a prior traumatic brain injury (TBI). The results showed decreased neuromuscular complexity in individuals with a prior TBI compared to controls. The individuals exhibited slower walking speeds, reduced performance on the Dynamic Gait Index, and altered control of the temporal activation of muscle synergies.

Dual-task intervention based on trail making test: Effects on Parkinson's disease

Renata do Nascimento Silva et al.

Summary: The intervention with dual task based on trail making test showed improvements in daily life activities, learning adaptations, and retention of motor and cognitive aspects in individuals with Parkinson's disease. This may positively impact the daily lives of PD patients and increase autonomy in performing these activities.

The effect of fear of falling on balance and dual task performance in the elderly

Merve Sapmaz et al.

Summary: Elderly individuals with fear of falling showed significant differences in balance, dual task performance, quality of life, and physical activity level compared to the control group. Additionally, the completion time of both TUG(motor) and TUG(cognitive) tests were significantly longer in the elderly with fear of falling.

Fall prediction in neurological gait disorders: differential contributions from clinical assessment, gait analysis, and daily-life mobility monitoring

Roman Schniepp et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the predictive validity of multimodal clinical assessment outcomes and quantitative measures for fall-risk estimation in patients with neurological gait disorders. Results showed that falls and fall-related injuries are a significant health issue in these patients. Fall history taking and instrument-based measures of gait and mobility are important for predicting fall status, frequency, and severity in patients at risk of falling.

Fall Efficacy Scale-International cut-off score discriminates fallers and non-fallers individuals who have had stroke

Iza Faria-Fortini et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate specific cut-off values of clinical measures that could discriminate fallers and non-fallers individuals with chronic stroke. The results showed that the FES-I score demonstrated good discriminatory ability in identifying fallers among individuals with chronic stroke.
