Purification and Characterization of a Novel Calcium-Binding Heptapeptide from the Hydrolysate of Tilapia Bone with Its Osteogenic Activity

Jinlun He et al.

Summary: A calcium-binding peptide obtained from hydrolyzed tilapia bone was found to exhibit osteogenic activity. The peptide showed high calcium-binding capacity and interacted with different integrins mainly through electrostatic forces, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, the peptide suppressed osteoclast differentiation and promoted the proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization of osteoblasts.

Isolation of a novel calcium-binding peptide from phosvitin hydrolysates and the study of its calcium chelation mechanism

Xiaowei Zhang et al.

Summary: A new peptide with strong calcium binding capacity was isolated and identified, showing potential as a calcium supplement from food resources. The chelating mechanism involves main binding sites and increased beta-sheet structure when interacting with calcium ions. This finding suggests higher solubility and dialysis rate for calcium in the peptide-calcium chelate compared to other calcium sources.
