The role of itch and pain modulation in the prediction of phototherapy outcomes: a prospective cohort study

Michal Ramon et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore whether psychophysical parameters could predict phototherapy outcomes for chronic itch patients. The findings suggest that more efficient conditioned pain modulation for itch was correlated with higher improvement in itch symptoms following phototherapy, emphasizing the role of descending inhibition pathways in determining phototherapy efficacy.

No indications for altered EEG oscillatory activity in patients with chronic post-burn itch compared to healthy controls

Samantha K. Millard et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cortical oscillatory processes involved in chronic post-burn itch and found no statistical differences in oscillatory activity between patients and healthy controls. However, there may be associations between post-traumatic stress symptoms and duration of chronic itch with changes in oscillatory activity. The results suggest that itch symptoms may have a localized character in this sample of patients.

The molecular basis for IL-31 production and IL-31-mediated itch transmission: from biology to drug development

Kazufumi Kunimura et al.

Summary: Atopic dermatitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disease, with IL-31 as a key mediator of AD-related itch. EPAS1 and NKB have been identified as critical molecules for IL-31 production and transmission of itch, potentially serving as novel drug targets for AD-associated itch.
