Janus Kinase Inhibitors: Next-Generation Treatment for Uveitis

Yosuf El-Shabrawi et al.

Summary: A large proportion of patients with visual impairment secondary to non-infectious uveitis may require alternative treatments to currently available immunomodulators. Janus Kinase Inhibitors (JAKi) have shown promise as an effective therapeutic approach for various types of uveitis. By inhibiting the phosphorylation of Janus kinases, JAKi downregulate cytokine expression and inflammatory mediators. They have already been approved for the treatment of several autoimmune diseases and have shown better therapeutic response in some cases compared to conventional biologics.

Development and implementation of the AIDA International Registry for patients with Behcet's disease

Antonio Vitale et al.

Summary: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the design, development, and implementation of the AutoInflammatory Disease Alliance (AIDA) International Registry for Behcet's disease (BD) patients. The registry aims to collect standardized real-life data from pediatric and adult patients, using the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) tool. As of February 7th, 2022, 110 centers from 23 countries have participated, with 54 centers obtaining approval from their local Ethics Committees. The registry collects a wide range of data, including demographics, clinical manifestations, therapies, and healthcare access.

Pediatric Behcet's Disease

Mehmet Yildiz et al.

Summary: Behcet's Disease is a systemic vasculitis characterized by aphthous lesions in the oral and genital mucosae and uveitis, with the highest incidence in communities living along the historical Silk Road. While the disease usually develops in young adulthood, about 15-20% of patients develop it in childhood. Pediatric BD differs from adult BD not only in age of onset but also in clinical findings, disease severity, and outcome.
