Selection of sustainable solutions for crop residue burning: an environmental issue in northwestern states of India

Pravin Kumar et al.

Summary: The main purpose of the paper is to find sustainable solutions for crop residues burning in the northwestern states of India, where post-monsoon burning of crop residues significantly increases particulate matter in the environment. Analysis reveals that utilizing crop residues for biogas, biochar, and bioethanol production is the most preferred substitute, highlighting the importance of social and economic sustainability for farmers in the region.

Forest soil nutrient stocks along altitudinal range of Uttarakhand Himalayas: An aid to Nature Based Climate Solutions

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: Understanding forest functioning is crucial for sustainable ecosystem services, with a focus on carbon sequestration potential and nutrient stoichiometry in Uttarakhand, India. The study found that nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic carbon content in forest soil increased with altitude, while stoichiometric ratios remained consistent. Soil carbon sequestration potential varied across tree species, indicating Abies pindrow > Cedrus deodara > Quercus leucotrichophora > Pinus roxburghii. This information aids in forest management and mitigation strategies.
