This paper analyzes the relationship between carbon emission and economic development in Guangdong Province using decoupling theory. The results indicate that the economic development and carbon emissions in Guangdong Province are in a weak decoupling state. This is mainly attributed to factors such as industrial structure, education investment, science and technology investment, and environmental protection investment. To achieve coordinated development of carbon emission reduction and the economy, emphasis should be placed on optimizing industrial structure, improving education quality, enhancing technological levels, and increasing environmental protection investment.
