Risk management of hydropower projects for sustainable development: a review

Anuja Shaktawat et al.

Summary: Hydropower projects are site-specific with huge investment and long gestation periods, exposing them to various risks that need comprehensive risk management. The construction phase is identified as the most critical and costly phase, requiring incorporation of risk analysis and provision for uncertainties. Sustainable development has become a critical issue associated with environmental and social impacts in hydropower projects.

Finance in global transition scenarios: Mapping investments by technology into finance needs by source

Friedemann Polzin et al.

Summary: Numerous studies have provided scenarios on energy transition, but lack information on financing. An appropriate financing mix should be calculated based on investment projections according to different technology assumptions. Major commitments to wind and solar energy require asset finance from institutional investors.

A New Hybrid AHP and Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence Method for Project Risk Assessment Problem

Saad Muslet Albogami et al.

Summary: This study introduces a hybrid approach of AHP and Dempster-Shafer theory to select the best project, considering uncertain risk factors, in three stages: identifying risk factors, project classification, and selecting the best alternative. The results show that the proposed method differs from traditional methods in many cases, but can be safely used for project selection problems in real industries.

Effects of run-of-river hydropower plants on fish communities in montane stream ecosystems in Serbia

Predrag Simonovic et al.

Summary: Small run-of-river hydropower plants have been rapidly installed in Serbia, especially on montane streams, leading to negative impacts on stream habitats and fish species. Research shows that these plants cause habitat deterioration, reduced brown trout biomass, and changes in fish community structure, with resident brown trout being the most affected species. Efforts to mitigate these effects through fish passages and stocking are often ineffective for unique native brown trout stocks.

Development of a hybrid AHP and Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence for project risk assessment problem

Saad M. Albogami et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new hybrid AHP and Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence for choosing the best project among available alternatives under uncertain risk factors, aiming to minimize overall risks. The study considers four groups of risk factors and uses experiments and analysis to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in project selection in real industries, showing different results compared to classic AHP due to uncertainty of risk factors.

On Bangia atropurpurea (Bangiales, Rhodophyta), the strictly protected red alga in Serbia

Aleksandra B. Mitrovic et al.

Summary: The red alga Bangia atropurpurea was first observed in Serbia in 1991, with sporadic sightings in various locations over the years. More intensive research from 2017 to 2020 revealed its preference for habitats with running water, high oxygen levels, slightly alkaline conditions, low inorganic nutrients, and a wide range of temperature and conductivity values. Due to its limited distribution, low abundance, and threats from anthropogenic impacts and small hydropower plants, the species is considered endangered and strictly protected in Serbia.

A review of research on the Lemanea genus in Serbia

Aleksandra B. Mitrovic et al.

Summary: The first data on the Lemanea genus in Serbia dates back to the late 20th century, with four taxa identified, including two species newly recorded in Serbia. Lemanea species were found to prefer specific environmental conditions and are sensitive to negative anthropogenic impact, particularly from the construction of small hydropower plants.
